Only very late I found interest in genealogy.
It has turned out to be a very exiting, surprising and interesting hobby.
The name Koed
At the moment I am researching my name Koed.
All persons with the surname Koed or with Koed as a middle name seems to be
one big family. However I can not be sure yet.
While researching I am writing all finds into my database.
That is why you will find many "loose" persons or small family groups
scattered around in my data.
My own family
My family is partly of Icelandic origin which in this respect is a big
advantage.
The information resources to help finding my Icelandic family and ancestors
are
very big.
It is much more difficult to find information about the Danish part of the
family.
My ancestors has turned out to be very interesting. They contain both kings and
queens as well as Vikings, knights and other exciting people. Royalties as Her
Majesty Queen Margrethe II and the notorious Tsar Ivan IV "The Terrible"
together with King Harald Bluetooth and King Alfred the Great, as well as many
nobilities, are to be found in the family.
That kind of findings make one eager to further research.
The family and the ancestors move down through the history and then further
through the sagas, legends and traditions.
The Homepage of The Icelandic Family
In the beginning I whished to research the family of mine. During my research it
has turned out that my Icelandic family is so big that it would be more
correct to call this page The Homepage of The Icelandic Family.
The information and data available are so huge, that indications now show, that
my homepage will be much bigger than I ever anticipated.
My research has shown, that almost all in my Icelandic family, are one big
family.
Based on this I now have got the idea, slowly but surely, to create The Homepage of The Icelandic Family.
My data
I have been lucky to be able to find really many of my ancestors.
It is with the greatest pleasure I invite you to look at my
ancestors.
There are now more than 30,000 names.
Follow this link to the list of surnames. The data has been deleted for a period of time -
while up-dating
I have found the Internet incredibly useful in this work.
Especially worth to mention is the database of
Magnús Gíslasons
(who is a relative as well) which has been of great help to me - thank you.
But many other sources have been, and still are, a big help in my research.
Even if not mentioned - still not forgotten! Just a big thank you.
I will not forget The Icelandic Sagas. Without
them I would have been lost.
The sagas are available in an
English
translation.
Availability of data
It seems to be a 50/50 opinion about whether to publish one's data or
not.
I have the opinion that one should publish the data, and thereby give other
genealogy researchers an opportunity to find and use the information.
Other people have the opinion that they should be paid to share the
information.
I think genealogy is a hobby and not a way of providing the daily food.
